"Blacks", "monkeys": proceedings launched against El Salvador after racist excesses by its supporters

The International Football Federation has launched an investigation into racist behavior by Salvadoran fans. The incident occurred during a 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Suriname.
By Le Parisien with AFPFIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against El Salvador following accusations that fans used racist abuse against Suriname players on Monday during the Concacaf qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, the Salvadoran federation (Fesfut) announced on Thursday.
"FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against our federation" due to "information concerning inappropriate behavior by certain supporters during the match," Fesfut wrote on the social network X.
After the match, won 2-1 by Suriname, Surinamese coach Stanley Menzo and his defender Shaquile Pinas said in a press conference that they had been subjected to racist insults from supporters at the Cuscatlan stadium in San Salvador.
Fesfut said it "categorically rejects any form of racism, discrimination or homophobic offense in and outside stadiums" and shares "FIFA's zero tolerance policy."
